Talon's Plague

08/31/2010

So, today, I stayed home from school. It's bad enough we nearly missed second period yesterday because our bus FORGOT us(!), but I felt awful that entire day. I started shivering during lunch and all through the rest of the day. I knew I was sick, so I laid down on the couch when I got home. Mallory's been coughing for the past week, so I though I had that, but she never had a fever. I knew I'd catch something, but I didn't know what. We decided to call it Talon's Plague.

My friend Megan has a boyfriend named Talon who got sick and then Megan got it, then Megan's entire family got it, then I got it. I think you can see why we call it Talon's plague. Well, I got home from school yesterday and laid on the couch, like I said. I felt really cold, so I hesitantly took my temperature, which was 101.6*F. I went upstairs and got my robe, and went back down stairs. When my mom got home, she took my temperature again and it was 102.something. I took some Ibuprofuen and nasal spray and got an ice pack for my hot head and just sat around, eating Ramen noodles. My throat was really sore, so I was glad to eat something warm. Plus, I hadn't been able to drink anything because it hurt so much to swallow even my own saliva. I tried my hardest not to talk or swallow during school, which worked, but then I went to band.

We just so happened to be doing breathing excersizes that day where we had to breathe in so much it made a sound, and the same with breathing out. Yeah, that helped...

So, today, I stayed home. My temperature was down a few degrees, but it was still high (99.6-98.6) and I still shivered a lot. I pretty much spent the day finishing homework, chilling on FaceBook, and refilling my ice pack. I'm glad about a few things though: No Algebra homework tonight. I was very happy to hear this, because I was sort of freaking out about missing out on it because I could easily get behind since we usually get over 30 problems in one night's homework, so two nights' would be awful. Megan TRIED to make me think we took ThinkLink (a TCAP--Tennessee Comprehension Assessment Program--prep test thing) which I knew was fake because they'd be like "ThinkLink in a week", "ThinkLink in two days", etc., etc. Plus, we wouldn't have one this early in the year, anyway. We've been in school three weeks and I KNOW we wouldn't have a test that important this early. At least she tried.

Last note: My fever broke, so I've been sweating like crazy and I feel all hot. I don't feel sick that much anymore, though my throat has a tinge to it, but I'm super hot! It's getting annoying, having to fill my ice pack over and over. I think my head's adapted to the feeling of it.
